Hedley in Seven Guitars received a summons to the Tuberculosis League Hospital of Pittsburgh prompting him to arm himself with a machete. The Tuberculosis League Hospital of Pittsburgh was the headquarters for tuberculosis treatment and research in Pittsburgh during and after the 1940s. Even after the antibiotic was discovered in 1946, tuberculosis patients were kept in isolation in sanitariums, that Hedley fought to avoid. |
